Relationship to marginalized people:
How much does how you look influence the ideas people have about you? The series "Born in Bangkok" digs into this question. It features portraits of people, who are born in the capital of Thailand, who are not ethnically Thai. So at first glance, outside of their communities they are mostly not associated with their birth city. The series challenges viewers' perception of ethnicity and shines a light on communities outside of the mainstream Thai society.
The Thai-Indian community consists of about half a million people in a populace of nearly 70 million people. In comparison to other minority groups in the kingdom, the Thai-Indian are relatively affluent, because of the relative large proportion of business owners. Nonetheless, a common term used by mainstream society is 'kaeg', which can be translated as 'guest'.
